The First 5 Pages You Need On Your New Squarespace Site
So you’ve recently started an exciting new business and you’re ready to share it with the world!
The first step is to build a clean, informative website on Squarespace to let customers know who you are and what you do.
But before you try to build a fancy new site with all the complex bells and whistles, here are the first 5 pages you need on your new site.
The First 5 Pages You Need On Your New Squarespace Site
1. Home Page
Your Home Page is like your digital storefront. It’s one of the first places people are going to land when they come across your business online.
A home page can make or break your opportunity to get a new customer, so it needs to be done right.
Too confusing - customers will leave your site faster than I can spell my own name.
Too pushy - customers will feel pressured and uncomfortable with you.
A great Home Page should be simple and clearly convey these few things:
Who are you?
What do you do?
Who do you help?
What makes you different?
How do people contact you?
Too many people focus on having the most visually-appealing website, and forget about clearly conveying their message to their customers.
An unclear website will cost you customers, so be sure to ask yourself - would this be clear to someone who’s never heard of me before?
2. About Page
Your About Page is such an essential page because customers want to know who they’re buying from - especially in today’s marketplace where everyone has been burned by misleading marketing and shady businesses.
I cannot overstate the importance of showing up authentically to your customers. It’s how you attract your ideal customers and repel the nightmare ones.
A few tips for an unforgettable About Page:
Don’t be afraid to be yourself
Share your story - the good, bad and ugly
State your mission and vision for your business
Relate everything back to how it benefits your customer
Don’t be afraid to get personal. People buy from people that they know, like and trust. So by opening up and being vulnerable, your customers get to see the human side of you - the side they can relate to and resonate with.
3. Services Page
Your Services Page is your chance to share what you do with your customers.
It’s where you’ll share all the different ways you can serve your customers and how your services can improve their lives.
This is different for every business, but some examples are:
For Restaurants: Menus, Beverages, Live Music/Entertainment
For Service Providers: Packages, Service Tiers & Pricing Options
For Coaches/Instructors: Packages, Pricing Options & Info-Products
No matter which services you offer, it’s important to outline what they are and how they can benefit the lives of your customers.
People want to know what they’re buying ahead of time, so it’s vital to be clear about exactly what you do and what customers get when they buy from you.
4. Testimonials Page
Never underestimate the power of social proof - nothing sells your business like other people.
If you have reviews, whether they’re in the form of emails, videos, letters, Google Reviews, Facebook Page Reviews, whatever, you need to be showcasing them on your website.
When people can see that other customers have bought from you and loved it enough to leave a great review, they trust that they’ll have the same experience.
So any chance you get to display your social proof - do it!
Whenever I build websites for my clients, I create a dedicated ‘Testimonials Page’ and also sprinkle reviews and social proof throughout their websites (pro tip: display social proof near a call to action)
5. Contact Page
Finally, customers need a way to contact you!
On a Contact Page, it’s best to share all the different ways people can contact you - this gives them the convenience of choosing the option that’s best for them.
Share your phone number, email, a contact form, social media profiles, address, etc.
Another trick that I like to use for my clients’ sites is including their contact details in the footer of their website. That way, no matter which page a customer is on, the contact details are always right there at the bottom of the page.
There’s no point showcasing your business if people can’t get in touch with you, so make it really easy for your customers to reach you.
