Why You Should NOT Rely On Your Facebook Page As Your Website
Maybe your Facebook page worked for the first few years, but it’s no longer doing the job…
Or maybe it’s still working well for you…
Either way, many businesses rely solely on their Facebook pages to drive business, connect with new customers and showcase their services - and most don’t realise how this can negatively impact their business.
Here are 3 reasons why you should not rely on your Facebook page as your website:
1. You Don’t Control The Platform
A huge issue with relying solely on your Facebook page is that you don’t control the platform.
This means that at any point (without warning), Facebook can—and often does—change the algorithm.
Unfortunately, Facebook is increasingly becoming a pay-to-play platform, leaving smaller-budget businesses in the dust, while larger companies with massive budgets steal the lion’s share of the attention.
It’s becoming almost impossible to reach new customers organically. You may have noticed this already, with post engagement dropping rapidly over the last few years.
So if your entire business rests on someone else’s shoulders, things can become catastrophic when algorithms change and platform guidelines become stricter.
2. You Don’t Have Control Over The Design & Branding
Another issue with Facebook pages is that you have very limited control over the design and visual-branding.
Sure, you can customise your profile picture and cover photo, but beyond that, it’s virtually impossible to stand out from the competition.
On the flip side, a platform such as Squarespace (the platform I use for my clients’ sites) gives you complete control over the look and feel of your website - everything from the logo, fonts, font size, photos, layout, colours, and everything in between.
Without solid visual branding, it’s incredibly difficult to stand out and showcase your brand’s personality, which can cause potential customers to overlook your business, regardless of how amazing your products or services are.
3. Not Having A Website Hurts Your Credibility
One of the most damaging things about relying solely on your Facebook page is that it actually hurts your credibility.
When potential customers find you online, you have a limited window of opportunity to connect with them, and to capture their interest. And if all you have is a Facebook page, you can’t engage people nearly as effectively as you can with a beautifully designed, easy-to-navigate website.
First impressions matter—a lot—and without a website that stands out, many people aren’t going to see you as a serious business.
